“Grouchy makes the cutest noises. He loves to come up and rest his chin on the couch asking permission to come up and cuddle with us. Then sometimes he will jump back and circle around like he is teasing; he does something every day to make us laugh. My hope for Mr. Groucho Man is that he finds a wonderful home where he can retire and be spoiled rotten. We will really miss this sweetheart.”

Nine-year-old Groucho lives life by his namesake’s famous words: “getting older is no problem, you just have to live long enough!” This loveable boy was surrendered when his family realized they weren’t able to give him enough attention and he started to show a bit of depression. Cheer up, Grouchy, you are ready for the good life!

Groucho certainly isn’t lacking in the looks department, he’s quite handsome! And, for an elderly gentleman, the fact that he has no health issues to speak of is quite remarkable. He has exhibited some pickiness when it comes to food, but we think that’s allowed for a gentleman set in his ways. You just have to find the food that will trigger some growling in his belly.

As is common with Frenchies, Groucho is quite content to lie in his favorite spot on the couch all day long. But, every once in a while, he might surprise you with a burst of playful energy. He doesn’t mind a short walk, but truthfully, his favorite part of a walk is the walk back home. He’s so sure of his ways that he’s known to make it quite clear when his bed isn’t in just the perfect position. No lumps or sideways blankets for this guy!

Groucho does well with dog-savvy children, but prefers older children who will not disrupt his peace and quiet. He has no issues with cats just as long as they leave him alone for the most part and does well with dogs that are smaller than he is. All in all, Groucho will do best in a home that doesn’t see a lot of activity on a daily basis. He wants a comfortable setting for his senior years.

Groucho will likely do well in a first-floor apartment, a condo, or a house, but does need easy access to a yard with as few steps as possible. He wants to get out, do his business, and get back in his comfy spot as quickly as possible. Ideally, Groucho would like someone home with him most of the day to get his perfect number of snuggles, but he would adjust to a home where he gets midday breaks, as well. He would also be a great office dog with a cozy spot of his own for snoozing.

Here is what Groucho’s foster mom has to say: “Grouchy makes the cutest noises.

If you think Groucho is a perfect gentleman for your home, please tell us why in an application and be ready for a trip to Pennsylvania to pick-up this handsome snoozer!

FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.

FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter's home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
