Piccolo was diagnosed sterile nodular panniculitis which is now in remission. She must be followed by a dermatologist and monitored for relapse. Current treatment is daily Doxycycline and Niacinamide with Prednisone as needed. She has a history of staph infections, including MRSA, and abscesses due to her condition. Piccolo has occasional cherry eye that has been successfully treated with medication in the past, but it may return.
She is a resource guarder, so must never be around small children and must be fed separately from other dogs. She must be monitored during feeding and when toys are present.
Piccolo has several allergies and must remain on Farmina diet. She is allergic to cats so she must never be around them. She is also allergic to human epithelia and feathers so she must not sleep in the human bed.
After a myriad of tests, hundreds of medicated baths, and oodles of love in foster care; beautifully pied Piccolo is finally ready for her forever home! This sweet girl was surrendered to FBRN because her previous owners could no longer afford to treat her allergies and skin condition. We’ve been happy to help, and we know there is a perfect home just waiting to adopt this wonderful girl.
Piccolo was diagnosed with sterile nodular panniculitis which is now in remission. She must be monitored for relapse and it would be ideal if her adopting family lived close to a doggie dermatologist in the event that there are issues in the future. Current treatment is daily Doxycycline and Niacinamide with the addition of Prednisone if her skin condition flares up. Piccolo has a history of staph infections, including MRSA, and abscesses due to this skin condition. She also has occasional cherry eye that has been successfully treated with medication in the past, but may return. Piccolo has several allergies and must remain on a special diet. She is allergic to cats and feathers so there should definitely not be any feline or feathered friends in Piccolo’s forever home. She is also allergic to human epithelia, and sadly, must not be allowed to sleep in the human bed.
Piccolo is a resource guarder and must be fed separately from other dogs and any playtime with toys must be monitored, or they must play in separate rooms. That being said, Piccolo really enjoys the company of other dogs and would love to have a fur-sibling! Potential adopters should be experienced with this behavior and potential fur-siblings should be laid back and non-reactive. Tell us about your experience living with resource guarders in your application. Older and dog-savvy children would be great. We think Piccolo would enjoy any home environment where she was able to spend lots of time with her people.
In general, Piccolo is a very happy and loving girl. She is active and likes to explore the back yard and go on walks, but she also loves to hang on the couch with her people! Piccolo is a strong chewer and loves Nylabones and antlers. Stuffed toys that are more durable are also favorites. Piccolo can be very intense when she plays and most stuffed toys will be de-stuffed quickly! Traditional fetch games are rather short, but Piccolo loves to carry her toys around and play chase.
Piccolo’s forever home shouldn’t contain cats, birds, or other critters, but she really does enjoy having another dog to pal around with. We would love to see her with a non-reactive canine companion! She would be fine in homes with almost any mix of people, but preference will be given to those who have experience with bulldog behavior.
One thing that could affect the success of Piccolo’s placement is the type of home. You see, she makes loud (we’re talking call the police loud) screaming noises when she gets excited. In an apartment or any home with shared walls, the neighbors might be concerned, horrified, or annoyed. Seriously, the sounds are surprisingly loud and more like a scream than a bark. This has reduced over time, but there is still a little bit of Piccolo-style excitement when her person comes home or when a great game of tug-of-war ensues.
Piccolo is a typical Frenchie who loves constant human contact. Of course she would love someone to be home all day, but she really would be okay with a break in the middle of the day. Piccolo is potty trained and very well behaved, and certainly shouldn’t be crated for long periods. We think she would be an amazing office dog as long as everyone was careful about food and toys when other dogs were present.
Here’s a message from Piccolo’s foster mom, “Piccolo is a special little girl who deserves an amazing home. She may require a bit of extra care once in a while but she's totally worth it and will repay you many times over with love.”
If Piccolo sounds like a perfect fit for your family, please apply today! Until then, she will wait for her prince to come and continue to soak up all the love in her Ol' Virginny foster home.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
