Neela is a cute and sassy 2 ½ year old girl, ready to search for her forever home! A Good Samaritan found Neela on Craigslist and saved her from a bad situation. Sadly, the Good Sam realized that Neela’s health issues were just too much and surrendered her to FBRN, knowing it was in Neela’s best interest.
This girl absolutely loves being around people. So far, she’s never met a person she didn’t like. She loves to receive affection and is willing to love a person right back. One minute, she’ll have that puppy energy we all love but the next, she’s ready to plop down and just chill.
She currently lives with other dogs and enjoys playing with them, however, Neela is the Queen of Resource Guarding. She guards food, toys and sometimes her space. Given this, Neela is best suited for a home with no other dogs or a very experienced home who can work with her on this issue and understands that toys and treats should never be left out and everyone needs to eat separated by gates or doors. She must always be monitored during feeding time and when toys are present. Slow intros are required if there are other dogs in the home. Other low-key dogs without resource guarding issues. If you have a really mellow dog and you are interested in Neela, be sure to tell us about your experience managing or training resource guarding dogs.
Neela has not been exposed to children. Because of her resource guarding, she must never be in a home with small children or children of any age who do not understand dog behaviors. That goes for adults, too.
Neela has been receiving phenomenal care in her foster home and while she will have ear issues for the rest of her life, they are now manageable. Neela’s foster mom has been tending to Neela’s ears. There were bacterial and yeast infections in both ears that had gone untreated for quite a long time. After antibiotics and topical medication daily, the infection has gone away. The untreated issue left Neela with an ear that is unique to her. We think she’s trying to be a trend-setter with this look!
Neela stays in an x-pen during the day when foster mom isn’t home to keep this curious canine safe and out of trouble. Foster mom is perfecting Neela’s potty training and because of Neela’s history, her adoptive family will need to understand that the training will need to continue. Applicants should understand that potty training can slip when a dog is introduced to a new home with new sounds, smells, rhythms, schedules, and people.
Neela loves chewing on Nylabones, playing with her stuffed toys with her humans, and being a cute Velcro dog. Affection is her middle name.
This girl isn’t particular when it comes to where you live. House, apartment, RV…none of that matters to Miss Neela. As long as there is the occasional walk, play time and lots of snuggle time, she’ll be just fine. She could make a great office dog, as long as there is a plan in place for her to be safe and not feel a need to exhibit her resource guarding. She’s gone to work with foster mom and the only downside is that everyone thinks Neela is too cute to pass by without giving her some pets. This means foster mom isn’t getting a lot of work done. In any situation with new dogs, including workplaces, very slow intros will need to be followed.
Neela’s foster mom has this to say about her: “Neela has been through a lot with her previous owners, and even during her time in fostering. When I got her she was very skinny, cowered a lot when I would bend town to pet her, and she was in bad shape because of her ear infection. She was crated for most of her life and not given a lot of attention and care. She has given birth before, so she was once a momma.
"Neela is a little angel. She's one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met and deserves to find an amazing forever home where she will be given the attention and love she needs. She's the cutest thing. She's a snorer, a grunter, she's sassy and playful, but mostly she's a sweetheart.”
Does Neela’s story and picture make you swoon? Does it speak to you and make you realize that you are her family and that you need each other? Then click that button and apply for this sweet girl. Learning together, playing and snuggling with her forever family would make Neela’s life complete.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we donot disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
Neela has a long history of ear infections, so routine care must be provided to keep them clean. Ask your vet what to look for to catch ear infections early.
Neela is a resource guarder so for their safety, she must never be around small children. If there is more than one dog in the house, she should be watched during feeding time and when toys are present. Pick up dishes immediately after dinner.
A slow intro is required if there are other easy going dogs in the home.
Best wishes, Neela, on finding a perfect, loving forever home that all frog princesses should have. Here’s a little something for you for toys or treats or whatever you need. Diana C
